Jrarat Poultry Complex is
situated in Jrarat village, 32.2 km from Yerevan.
-
Privatized in 1995, the company
operated only in 1997 with the financial assistance of Eurasia
Foundation, investments of the director Mr. Vahram Hakobyan
and shareholders.
-
Jrarat Poultry started the
business with importing American-French broilers from Turkey,
mother stock broilers from Hungary (with the joint efforts of
USDA Marketing Assistance Project and the World Bank), cross
breed broilers from Holland through Arbor Acres Company.
-
Jrarat started the business
with chicken meat and egg production. However, the saturation
of egg market and lack of local chicken meat supply positioned
Jrarat Poultry mainly as chicken meat producer. In fall 2000
Jrarat Poultry made the first move to sell chicken meat and
was successful in this market by selling 100 tons of meat and
completely stopped the egg production.
-
Since all efforts currently are
focused on meat production the slaughtering facilities are
modernized and renewed and new refrigerators are installed.
-
Total of 140 employees of the
poultry annually produce 800-1000 tons of chicken meat.
Newborn chickens are fed and kept for 42-50 days, slaughtered,
packed in plastic packs, put into cardboard boxes in 10 pc and
distributed to more than 300 stores of Armenia.
-
The main competitors in the
local market are Lusakert, Arzni poultries, French and
Brazilian chicken meat producers.
-
Jrarat Poultry OJSC is looking
for export possibilities.
